This is what we started with! A ton of peppers! What to do with them?!?! Cameron's philosophy is to plant a lot of plants and hope that some of them don't freeze! Our town has proven to be a difficult place to have a garden, but Cameron refuses to give up. As you can see the peppers did very well. Not zucchini, not the corn, not the tomatoes, not anything, except the peppers! RANDOM!!
Cameron found on KSL classifieds that we could go pick your own tomatoes for a very reasonable price so one evening we packed everyone up and headed to Day Farm to pick our own tomatoes. We decided we better make some salsa to use up some of these peppers. The kids thought it was so fun. They love to harvest!!
Such cute kids! The twins fell asleep on the drive down and slept through the whole thing.
Cameron is such a great helper. Actually he is probably the chef and I am the assistant for the salsa! He did most of the salsa prep stuff and I did the canning.
We did 3 batches of jalapeno jelly, 3 batches of green pepper jelly, 2 batches of salsa and a batch of peach salsa. And finish it up 3 batches of peach-raspberry jam! We still had a ton of peppers left to distribute to the neighbors and some went bad because we just couldn't use all of them fast enough! I am so glad canning season is only once a year, it totally burns me out by the time we are done. I am not a die hard canner, but I am sure glad we have it!
